Slike scenarier finnes i afrofuturismen! Den kommer til uttrykk i alle kunstformer (som musikk, litteratur, arkitektur, dans), og bringer forestillinger om en alternativ historie, samtid og framtid fra svarte menneskers posisjon. Det er en kunstnerisk og filosofisk praksis som foregår utenfor Afrika, blant mennesker med afrikansk opphav. Ofte brukes grep fra science fiction og fantasy i forsøk på å gjenvinne identiteter og perspektiver som har gått tapt gjennom koloniseringen. Som i den prisbelønte filmen Black Panther fra 2018, basert på tegneserien ved samme navn, blandes gjerne mytologi og kultur med teknologi og futuristisk estetikk. Filmen gjorde begrepet afrofuturisme mer kjent, og i arrangementsserien "Jorda rundt på Tøyen" vil vi vite mer!

29. oktober møtes performancekunstner og skribent Duduzile Mathonsi, førsteamanuensis ved UiO, Bodhisattva Chattopadhyay og kunstnerisk leder for Tabanka Dance Ensemble, Thomas Talawa Prestø, til samtale med Ane Nydal. Samtalen foregår på engelsk, og vil bli streamet.

Det blir også afrofuturistisk dans og perkusjon fra Tabanka Dance Ensemble.

What if a technologically superior civilization of African Americans lived on the back of the moon, long before the United States planted its flag there? What if Africa has always had its own resources, and slavery never took place?

Such scenarios exist in Afrofuturism! It is expressed in all art forms (such as music, literature, architecture, dance), and brings notions of an alternative history, present and future from the position of black people. It is an artistic and philosophical practice that takes place outside Africa, among people of African descent. Tools from science fiction and fantasy are often used in attempts to regain identities and perspectives that have been lost through colonization. As in the award-winning film Black Panther from 2018, based on the cartoon of the same name, mythology and culture are often mixed with technology and futuristic aesthetics. The film made the concept of Afrofuturism more familiar, and in the event series "Around the world on Tøyen" we want to know more!

On October 29, performance artist and writer Duduzile Mathonsi, associate professor at UiO, Bodhisattva Chattopadhyay and artistic director of the Tabanka Dance Ensemble, Thomas Talawa Prestø, will meet for an interview with Ane Nydal. The conversation takes place in English, and will be streamed.There will also be Afrofuturistic dance and percussion from the Tabanka Dance Ensemble.
