Deichman operates more than 20 branch libraries all over Oslo. We are Norway's largest and oldest public library, founded in 1785.

Deichman Public Library is the agency for the public libraries in the City of Oslo.

Merete Lie is the library director and director of the agency, for a period of six years from January 2024.

Deichman Bjørvika is Oslo’s new main library, centrally located between Oslo Central Station and the Opera House. It opened on June 18th in 2020.

Here you will find six floors containing literature, reading and study areas, stages, a movie theatre and workshops – for young and old.
